I think we have found Bock's Christmas present.

Seriously providing that the emulation is good and Sega Europe releases it, I would happen to buy it (and I just paid a fiver at Gamestation for Wonder Boy 3, a rip off). Hope that there is a FM/No FM option in the collection for Wonder Boy in Monster Land and Wonder Boy 3: The Dragon's Trap.

Wishes that it would come to Europe.

It could come to eurpoe if they do a second classic compilation.
Has anybody seen anything of the Alex Kidd remake that was announced when this series first began?

No I have not. But there is also lemmings comming out on PS2, dunno if its a direct port of the SMS version but it would still be cool to have.

According to my brother its getting released in Australia some time next month. I dunno if that means the same for EUR/US?

As for this Wonderboy thing I have never heard of it.

It is a new game. I doubt there would be anything to tie it to the SMS as it was released for at least 7 different platforms.

It's going to be a simple port or a total remake?

Normally, just port.
That's what they did with the Space Harrier Collection, or Quartet/SDI...
Phantasy Star Collection (1,2,3,4) is announced as well for this winter, so I guess no 3 and 4 remake :((

It'll probably be a remake. All the Sega Ages releases I've played have been remakes (Phantasy Star 2, for example).

When it's only ONE GAME, yes, it's a remake..When there's more than one, always untouched.

Good fact, IHMO. Seeing the crap quality of most Sega Ages remakes, I'd rather not see a modified Wonder Boy if it's a crap one.
Monster World deserve a proper current generation new game release made by competent people. Now that would be great.

I second that. On a side note I have had several incompetent groups contact me with about 5 home grown games that never get finished or off the ground so we need a real games company like Sega or Treasure (if they are still around) to do so.

Fan-made projects always start off with energy, enthusuasm, great plans and mocked-up screenshots, and die a death when they realise it's actually really, really hard to make anything worth a damn. Either that, or they throw something together in a day and that's all you get (see: Alex Kidd click&play games).

Well... I would like there's something like both original and arrange versions... But I don't like to see a weak work. In this way, I'm with you, Bock.
After all, how many versions of each game will include in the pack? (ex: Wonder SMS, GG and Arcade versions, Monster World SMS and Arcade versions, etc...). If they will put just one, which version they will put?

Talking about Alex Kidd, when will be released a Alex Kidd pack? They would turn Miracle World in a competent arrange version.. :)

I'm waiting the Alex Kidd in Miracle World remake for 3 years. It was on the original list. We're now at Vol.28 and still nothing :(

The next "SMS related" are PS collection (1,2,3,4, obviously untouched -> meaning you can still wait for PS 3 and 4 remakes) and Fantazy Zone II DX (Of course remake, since it's one game only, and it's called DX :)

Looks like emulation to me.
Sega has the majority of the bus, Z80 and PSG sound emulation available(Genesis Collection Volume One) apparantly very accurately. There's more to it but doing mode 4 video and modifying that for GG mode are the main parts that remain.

What are these Sega Ages games like?

Do they have cinema's added? Is there new artwork in the manual? Is the title screen story modified?

Doubt it on all counts.

Why do more work?

Personally, I'd prefer everything to be original.
A: The experience is authentic, and B: if you only use one or the other, ROMs of each game are legal for owners of the game. You payed for a license of the code, and if they didn't change the code....

It would be great if they let you choose between Shion and that Girl character for MW4 (the last game in the series) or a whole new game with these two characters, co-op style in a adventure RPG.

There are 4 different packs which one at least includes a soundtrack CD and other items.
It's a shame you can't but it of you live outside of Japan.

Something that I've just noticed, there are using the Game Gear version of Wonder Boy 3 (Wonder Boy The Dragon's Trap). Wonder why they couldn't use the Master System version?

Well, the Master System version was not released in Japan.
I'm not even sure if the SMS version will be on the compilation.

I ripped it (mms:// stream, yuck) and uploaded to YouTube here:

The original 10.6MB WMV is slightly higher-resolution and clearer.

Wow. I had no idea they were going to include all the versions of each game. I may have to seriously look into importing this.

A pity Sega never released MW IV in English though.

The server always seems to be down at sega. I keep getting error messages.

I'm so glad you did. Thanks Maxim.
Can't wait to see more of the game as far as the extras.

I take it you mean the videos directory. Well, I don't want to waste our bandwidth on a video of a PS2 game... anyone who wants to host it is welcome, I just used this tool with one of the URLs in the ASX file:

I bet it's a replay function recorded of a true master at the game.
Would be very cool.
