Simkroid - A cyberpunk adventure (Demo)
Post Posted: Thu Sep 06, 2018 3:32 pm
So, this is the game i've been working on.
I built this on twee2sam (been bothering Haroldo over the last weeks).

Graphics / Music / Story by me.

Here is a story summary:

Det. Nadia Calder's latest assignment has her flying up to Orbital Station 1, to investigate the death of a worker: Anton.
Despite the usual softness that the Global Defense Force has shown to orbital crimes, Detective Calder's boss is pressing that his matter must be solved.
Life at the Orbital Station is not easy. Credits are short and luxury is a strange word to the residents.
But you can always grab a drink at the RGBar to soothe your troubles.
Gather clues, meet people, hack systems and acquire items to finally unravel the mistery of the murder.
Maybe there is more happening at OS1?

SIMKROID is a brand new Cyberpunk adventure game for the SEGA MASTER SYSTEM.
(AGES 18+: Themes of murder, suicide, cursing, etc.) There will be some graphic violence in the final version.

The demo features:
- 25 rooms.
- 12+ Npcs
- 7 items.
- 2 weapons.
- 4 enemies.
- Main player can level up twice. (Level cap is currently Level: 3).

On my tests, the time to finish the demo is around 20 minutes. It depends on the random battles (how many and which enemies).

I'm using the formulas that i posted about a while ago, with a bit of changing in values, to make the game a bit quicker and bit more balanced.

There's a bunch of references to books, music, movies, etc.

If anybody can test this, and give feedback, is appreciated.

Thanks. :)

Nice!

GFX are also good. Perhaps add some shades (from walls) to make it a little less flat?

Thanks for the video man. Glad you enjoyed the game. That little bug, is a bit of memory leak in SAM. I'm trying to understand how it occurs, so i can prevent it. Thanks for pointing it out.

Thanks for trying it, glad you enjoyed the music.
I still want to do a full on action game, but i'm still trying to learn C, before diving into that kind of project. With SAM, i know i can actually finish a game. :)

Shading is unfortunately beyond my current pixel-art skill. I tried adding shades when i was drawing the tiles, but, it really didn't looked right, so i decided to keep it simple. Baby steps. :)

New version of the game.

Version 01c (2018-09-10):
- fixed bug in screen 023 : Wrong cardinal directions.
- built with my modified twee2sam. (fixed jump/call bug).
- fixed hidden menu bug.
- added proper ending for the demo.

This is also probably the last playable demo for a while. I need to focus on drawing the rest of the assets now. Lots of little pixel dudes to draw.

Just to let everyone knows, that i'm still working on this.

Attached a couple of the new screenshots.

If anyone wants to beta test, i want to know if some things are too cryptic or if the game is too easy/hard, taking too long?

Since SAM doesn't support saving, i'm aiming to make a full playthrough be around 1hr, so there will be some battles/leveling up to do, because of that.
